Last autumn, the artist collective FOURDUMMIES went looking for Vienna’s safest places – including for example a private bunker, a deerstand or the waiting area of the Social Security Institution for freelancers. Since this search has resulted in the mysterious disappearance of Pamela Nitrowitsch, fellow safety officer of the City of Vienna, during a downtown work assignment, the group is now compiling suspicious facts, evidence and proof in the shape of a walk-in installation at brut. The audience may move around freely within this panopticon, follow performative clues, look into Nitrowitsch’s disappearance and get involved in a research project on actual and fictional safety and surveillance conditions in Vienna.
In 2013, the artists Waltraud Brauner, Peter Baur and Georg Klüver-Pfandtner invented the fictitious collective FOURDUMMIES and its alleged 20-year collaboration. So far, the collective has completed the project Image Recovery FOURDUMMIES at the 2014 imagetanz festival at brut and was then invited to show the pictures taken in the course of the project at Fotogalerie Wien. They have also travelled to Graz, Leoben and Vordernberg in Styria with their work Flash Forward – A photolab for things to come.
