Hiding in the Light features Katrina Daschner presenting the first five parts of her film series currently in production, which is loosely based on Arthur Schnitzler’s novella Dream Story. In her new interpretation, the artist questions and re-interprets some of the aspects of the original book. For example, her focus is on outsourced fantasies and a long-term couple abandoning its heteronormative structures.
Every single film, also standing for itself, opens up a new space that is briefly entered, leaving room for cravings and longings without wording them concretely. In addition, all parts present a new stage area that acts as both scenery and protagonist. Daschner’s aesthetic reveals the physicality and movements of the depicted objects without ever assigning them to a gender. This way, the montage creates an equal level for objects, animals, spaces and the performers, in which persons transform to emotionally acting characters just as sculpturally as the objects do.
