The solo opera FIVE by Vienna performance artist Frans Poelstra is a sensible musical study about fantasies and dreams. In the intimate space of the bar at brut, he interlinks reality and fiction and pulls his audience into a poetically and absurd parallel world.
“The story of a white-privileged-male-mouse who has a chip on his shoulder because of "not being talented enough for the theater." He wants to be on stage to show the world he has something to say. Oh yes, he wants to be on stage to kick some ass! But will this little animal ever succeed to make it to the stage? And if he gets there, won't "the kick in the ass” be more like a friendly pat on the shoulder? Will his obsession for the coolness of black mice stand in the way? He dwells between the black soul brothers and the white psychedelic hippies. But wait a minute! What kind of infantile story is this? Especially in these times of big issues! Does this matter at all? What matters? Nowadays?“
Frans Poelstra has worked in the fields of performance and dance since 1972. In addition to his solo pieces, he forms the performance duo united sorry with Robert Steijn and collaborates with numerous artists in Vienna and internationally.
