mama by gergő d. farkas is a performance that explores the body as a changing landscape. New, fantastic organs emerge – invisible, intangible and yet tangible. The three performers bring these organs to life through movement, sound and touch. Sensuality becomes a form of experience that goes beyond the human body.

gergö d. farkas – mama

mama is a choreographic space at the intersection of the enigmatic and the sensual. By exploring a set of mysterious organs, mama blurs the boundaries between inside and outside and opens up an embodied experience of self-alienation – the human being is challenged and stimulated less as an identity than as material. The performance creates a web of countless entanglements in which sensuality and eroticism go beyond interpersonal contact and become the driving force of belonging. Like tears, folds or stones, the scenes are organized around and within each other and thus form the fragile structure of the work. In mama, gergő d. farkas continues ‘organing’ – a choreographic research technique that has already been developed and tested in earlier works. ‘Organing’ combines physical experiences with fictional elements to spark new fantasies that interweave with the already inscribed narratives of the body. This practice aims to create a form of ‘worlding’ that does not end at the boundaries of the body – a space in which the material and the fantastic merge in a constant interplay.

gergő d. farkas (born 1996, they/them) loves choreography, dance, romance and mischief. Being lost in Vienna, Budapest, Stockholm or somewhere in between, they dream of belonging to sensual spaces where not only humans are invited to dance. They hold a BA in contemporary dance from the Amsterdam University of the Arts (MTD) and an MFA in choreography from the Stockholm University of the Arts. In 2021, gergő d. farkas received the danceWEB scholarship as part of ImPulsTanz (mentors: Anne Juren and Frédéric Gies). Between 2021 and 2022, they were part of the Budapest queer collective OMOH. In 2022/23 they were a resident artist in the Performing Gender program of Creative Europe and toured with the piece Deep Fake as part of the Aerowaves Twenty22 selection. The second piece babes was selected for Aerowaves Twenty25. Works have been presented at Trafó House of Contemporary Arts (HU), Dansehallerne (DK), Open House Festival (CY), MTD Legacy Festival (NL), Dansmakers Amsterdam (NL) and MDT Moderna Dansteatern (SE), among others. As a performer, gergő d. farkas has worked with Cullberg, Frédéric Gies, Kata Juhász, Tanya Marquardt, Ofelia Jarl Ortega, Karin Pauer, Alma Söderberg, Viktor Szeri and Alex Franz Zehetbauer, among others.
