{Post-human} {Virtual reality} {Flickering environment}}

What is real? What is fake? Deep Fake, gergo d. farkas’ first choreographic work from 2021, takes us into a world between virtual and authentic reality. A black-humoured and melancholic swan song to the end of the Anthropocene.

gergo d. farkas – Deep Fake

A lonely hybrid being between human and avatar moves to eerie music and enters into a tender relationship with a mysterious object called Grid. The contours of the living become blurred in this strange, flickering environment.

Accompanied by Márton Csernovszky’s uncanny music, gergo d. farkas takes us into a world in which light, sound, movement, human and non-human matter form a living and pulsating entity. In search of new possibilities of coexistence, the performance explores the question: How can we get the human gaze to be a little less anthropocentric?

Deep Fake toured internationally as part of the Aerowaves Twenty22 selection and was shown at the Zürcher Theater Spektakel (CH), the Dansehallerne (DK) and the Trafó House of Contemporary Arts (HU), among others. Deep Fake expands into the virtual world at deep-fake.world.

gergo d. farkas (born 1996, they/them) loves choreography, dance, romance and mischief. Being lost in Vienna, Budapest, Stockholm or somewhere in between, they dream of belonging to sensual spaces where not only humans are invited to dance. They hold a BA in contemporary dance from the Amsterdam University of the Arts (MTD) and an MFA in choreography from the Stockholm University of the Arts. In 2021, gergo d. farkas received the danceWEB scholarship as part of ImPulsTanz (mentors: Anne Juren and Frédéric Gies). Between 2021 and 2022, they were part of the Budapest queer collective OMOH. In 2022/23 they were a resident artist in the Performing Gender program of Creative Europe and toured with the piece Deep Fake as part of the Aerowaves Twenty22 selection. The second piece babes was selected for Aerowaves Twenty25. Works have been presented at Trafó House of Contemporary Arts (HU), Dansehallerne (DK), Open House Festival (CY), MTD Legacy Festival (NL), Dansmakers Amsterdam (NL) and MDT Moderna Dansteatern (SE), among others. As a performer, gergo d. farkas has worked with Cullberg, Frédéric Gies, Kata Juhász, Tanya Marquardt, Ofelia Jarl Ortega, Karin Pauer, Alma Söderberg, Viktor Szeri and Alex Franz Zehetbauer, among others.
