To open the 2019 imagetanz festival and to honour International Women’s Day, Henrike Iglesias will set out to reclaim their own sexualities. Looking for alternative, queer, feminist, sprawling, wayward, fantastic images for their own desires, the queer-feminist performance collective experiments with pornography as a strategy of self-empowerment. Henrike Iglesias will open their own live porn set to the audience and invite them to join. Everybody is allowed to come. But nobody is forced to come.
On March 9th there will be an artist talk at Atelier Augarten – Café following the performance. Hosted by: Denice Bourbon
Why is it that, in our highly sexualised world, female* sexuality is still so strongly pervaded by guilt, shame and silence? How come that not so long ago nobody really knew what the clitoris really looks like? Why are some allowed to fuck while others are being fucked? Who gets to be the object in this patriarchy we have, and who the subject? In OH MY, Henrike Iglesias attempt to leave speechlessness and shame behind, proudly inhabiting their bodies and owning their sexuality.
Henrike Iglesias is a queer-feminist theatre collective based in Berlin and Basel that was established in 2012 by Anna Fries, Laura Naumann, Marielle Schavan und Sophia Schroth. For them, phenomena of popular culture and the mass media mirror social situations and grievances, so they set out to shed a light on them from feminist perspectives. Their debut – whose title translates as “We’re not from showbiz (even though one might think that)” – won the audience award at the 2013 100° Berlin festival at Sophiensæle. Their feminist live porno OH MY, produced in 2018, will be their first production to present in Austria.
