As part of the Handle with Care series, Inge Gappmaier opens up her rehearsal process and presents excerpts of her new solo project, protect., in which she dances a duet with herself. The piece is about self-mirroring and self-reflection, isolation, infinity and the self-concept of freedom of movement in our contemporary society. In addition to geometry, the clarity of lines, rules and limits, Inge Gappmaiers main interests with this piece are complexity, intuition, accumulation and the vacuum of parallelism: when two things touch only in the potential space of infinity.
The Handle with Care series grants peeks into artistic processes, experiments with new formats and creates room for dialogue and exchange. Artists try out parts of their works in front of a limited audience in order to receive feedback, turning the spectators into accomplices.
Inge Gappmaier explores, creates and teaches in the field of contemporary choreography and dance. She studied choreography and performance at the Institute of Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen as well as Contemporary Dance Education at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna and the University of Dance and Circus in Stockholm. She received the DanceWEB scholarship as part of the Vienna Dance Festival in 2016 and a research fellowship by the City of Vienna in 2018.
