As part of brut’s Handle with Care series, Jasmin Hoffer, Sara Lanner and Liv Schellander allow sneak peeks into their creation process for Volume, a project to premiere at the imagetanz festival in March. In their piece, the three performers tackle the subject of orality in all its aspects.

Volume physically and performatively explores the oral as a complex arrangement of organs and as a multi-functional space. This edition of Handle with care shows the performers, Jasmin Hoffer, Sara Lanner and Liv Schellander, as they analyse the mouth as a border and all the things it can receive, shape, manipulate, produce and eventually eject. In Volume, the mouths are open, full, stuffed, they articulate or move, they transform material or manipulate other bodies – but they are certainly not kept shut.

The Handle with Care series grants sneak peeks into processes of artistic creation, experimenting with new formats and creating spaces for talking and exchanging views. Artists get the chance to try out parts of their work in front of a small audience, to receive feedback and to turn spectators into accomplices.

Jasmin Hoffer lives in Vienna as a choreographer, performer and dancer working in varying constellations and different formats with artists such as Elena Kristofor, Alfredo Barsuglia and Laura Oriol. Recent collaborations with brut featuring Jasmin included Swimming Pool and LOSS by Oleg Soulimenko.

Sara Lanner is a choreographer, dancer and performer in the fields of performing and visual arts. She most recently featured in WE WILL NOT LET YOU GO by Fanni Futterknecht. She also presented her solo performance Guess What at the 2018 imagetanz festival.

Liv Schellander collaborates with various other artists as a dancer, performer and choreographer in addition to running the training and workshop programme at Tanzquartier Wien since 2018. Her latest appearance at brut was in Veza Fernández’s When Eye Becomes Mouth.
