The Austrian choreographer/performer Simon Mayer is ready to open the rehearsal process for his new solo project. In Being Moved,he tries to find out how it can be possible to unite body and mind and to reach a state of transcendende. Using trance and meditation, he continues his quest for the universal folk dance that is devoid of boundaries like gender, politics, history or racism.
The Handle with Care series grants sneak peeks into processes of artistic creation, experimenting with new formats and creating spaces for talking and the exchanging of views. Artists get the chance to try out parts of their work in front of a small audience, to receive feedback and to turn spectators into accomplices.
Simon Mayer works as a performer, dancer, choreographer, musician and teacher. He studied at the Vienna State Opera’s ballet school and at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels and he used to be a member of the Vienna State Opera Ballet. He featured productions by the likes of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker/Rosas and Wim Vandekeybus and toured the world with his award-winning choreographies SunBengSitting, Sons of Sissy and Oh Magic. His most recent work to appear in the brut programme was the dance performance Requiem (2018).
