In the world of the irreality.tv series NIGHTWATCH there is only sleeplessness in a 24/7 rhythm. One day, as Mr. Sandmann discovers the traces of the underground organisation NIGHTWATCH, he joins the resistance: in an abandoned cinema foyer he opens the Café Sandmann as disguise. The first Viennes Sleepeasy is accessed through a hidden door – an illegal place for night rest or a lunchbreak, lovers of sleep and dreamers.
Café Sandmann and Sleepeasy: A filmset of the irreality.tv series NIGHTWATCH and likewise an urban infrastructure.
On 2 June irreality.tv invites you to the big opening: Mr. Sandmann will give a speech, the visitors can try out the spaces for sleep and as aspecial guest you can enjoy an ambient live set by The Black Black Paint (GER).
Of course you can stay for a sleepover full of dreams at the Sleepeasy. Till 16 June Wed-Sun from 12:00 pm the Sleepeasy is open for sleeping and on weekends and after preregistration you can stay the night.
Café Sandmann/Sleepeasy: Altes Kino Sandleiten, Liebknechtgasse 32, 1160 Wien

The opening takes place in the context of NIGHTWATCH by irreality.tv. In May and June, the performance TV collective irreality.tv will shoot a participatory science-fiction series for TV. NIGHTWATCH is set in a world that could be hours: a 24/7 rhythm rules everyday life. Nights are bereft of darkness and sleep is first optimised, then banned altogether. Hardly anyone dares to dream. And yet, there is some resistance against this regime of sleeplessness. A sleepeasy opens in Ottakring, a secret place where people meet for collective sleeping. Hope for a blackout is alive.
