Open Call for 3 rehearsal residencies at brut Wien in May & June 2025

We invite artists in the field of performing arts to apply for three different rehearsal residencies at brut nordwest and studio brut in May and June 2025. The deadline is 24 March 2025.

Let's talk about brut

The space is a small, minimalist theatre hall with a simple, modern aesthetic. The stage has a bright, smooth floor surface and is surrounded by three white walls without any decoration. At the back of the wall, there are three tall, narrow windows that let in a bit of natural light. The ceiling is equipped with a dense grid of spotlights, speakers, and technical installations that ensure the lighting and acoustics of the performance.

Residency 2: brut nordwest, Black box & Grey space
Nordwestbahnstraße 8-10, 1200 Vienna

Period: 10–13 June 2025 & 16–20 June 2025
Black box stage dimensions: length: 13.80 m / width: 14.50 m / height: 4.10 m lower edge of rigging
Accessibility: Black box and Grey space as well as WCs in brut nordwest are barrier-free accessible.
Rehearsal times: from 10:00 to 18:00

Residency 3: studio brut
Zieglergasse 25, 1070 Vienna

Period: 28 May – 06 June 062025
Stage dimensions: length: 6.2 m / width: 7.9 m / height: 5.4 m
Accessibility: The entrance and emergency exits at studio brut are not wheelchair accessible and can only be reached via steps.
A key will be issued, rehearsals are possible throughout.

brut Wien provides the following

Stage space in brut nordwest, Black box & Grey space, or studio brut
Light: working light (rehearsals without stage lighting, without theatre technology)
Sound: Bose speakers for independent operation
Rehearsal fees, per diems and other costs cannot be covered.

Who can apply?

The residencies are aimed at artists who pursue innovative approaches in the fields of dance, theatre, performance, new circus and related disciplines. The residencies offer the opportunity to further develop artistic projects that are in the development or rehearsal phase.

Applications by 24 March 2025 at the latest with the subject Application Open Call to bewerbung@brut-wien.at

The application should include the following

Indication of which residency the application applies to (Residency 1, 2 or 3). It is possible to apply for several residencies.
A brief description of the project proposal
A biography or CV of the artists involved
Relevant work samples (links to video material)
The application documents must be summarized in one PDF (max. 2 pages).

Applicants will be informed of the status of their application by the end of April 2025.
