Johnny Mhanna was born in Damascus, Syria, in 1991. There he studied acting at the Damascus University Theater and was a member of the Fada Ensemble for many years, as well as being involved in children's and youth theatre. From 2013 to 2015 he lived in Lebanon, where he also appeared in various theatre and feature film productions.
He has lived in Austria since 2015 and has since performed in numerous German-language productions, including HomoHalal, Die Arbeitersaga - Teil I at Werk-X Vienna, and the acclaimed production Traiskirchen - Das Musical at the Wiener Festwochen. In the recent past he has been involved in several productions at the Theater im Bahnhof Graz and at the Wiener Klassenzimmertheater. He has worked with well-known directors of the independent scene, choreographers and collectives, such as Tina Leisch, Ali M. Abdullah, John F. Kutil, Helmut Köpping, Rudolf Frey, Maria Sendelhofer, Jérôme Bel and Nesterval.
In addition to his work as an actor, he also worked as a theatre pedagogue for children and young people in Vienna, and as co-curator for the City of Vienna's Kultursommer 2021 for programming in the theatre section and staged readings. He was also a guest lecturer at the Mozarteum and co-directed Kinderfressen leicht gemacht at the Volkstheater Wien.
