![A person moves dynamically across a dark stage, holding a large, shiny piece of fabric in front of the body. The fabric in gold, black and deep pink opens like a wide fan and conceals parts of the body. The person wears red high heels, with one leg stepping forward. On the right, there is a transparent chair; in front of it are a glass bottle with yellowish liquid on a small tray, a grey cloth and technical props. Projections and the person’s large shadow are visible on the back wall.](https://brut-wien.at/assets/artists/elisabeth-bakambamba-tambwe/26_ElisabethTambwe_HIDINGTHISPALEOBJECTOFDESIREAPLEASURE_c_MarkusGradwhol_02.jpg)

Elisabeth Bakambamba Tambwe was born in Kinshasa and grew up in France, where she studied fine art and sculpture. In her choreographic work, the artist deals with the sensitive and fragile dimensions of the body and the concept of normality, which she criticises as tyrannical and humiliating. Her most recent works have been shown in such contexts as the Vienna Festival, steirischer herbst, brut Wien, donaufestival, the Vienna Dance Festival and Afro\_Vibes Amsterdam.
