By a diverse three-week programme this March, the imagetanz festival will present a variety of current takes on choreography and performance. Five premieres by local artists and two international guest performances will be completed by a multi-faceted outreach programme including twelve occasions on which festival artists invite the audience to join them for studio visits, workshops, talks and parties.
During the imagetanz festival, students in their 4th year of the bachelor course dance at MUK university will leave their familiar terrain and will become observers and critics of the imagetanz productions. Selected texts will be published here during the festival.
In March, imagetanz Festival is back at brut, with a diverse, three weeks long program presenting new artistic works in choreography and performance! Many exciting premieres and cooperations with local artists, outstanding international guest performances and an outreach program with studio visists, discussions, warm-ups and regulars' table is awaiting the audience! The artists invited this year propose alternative ties with the past and alternative strategies of staging it.
The Freischwimmer Fesitival is an international platform for new-comers, presenting contemporary artistic approaches by young artists from the independent theatre, dance and performance scene every other year. The festival is mutually organised and curated by brut Wien, Sophiensæle Berlin, Forum Freies Theater Düsseldorf, Künstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt am Main and Gessnerallee Zurich.
It’s March again, and it’s time for imagetanz! The 2016 edition of the festival focuses on a fundamental question: how can artists initiate a change in their own communities, neighbourhoods, cities? Do they have this power only through their artworks, or can the artists themselves induct a positive change just through their presence? >>>More
This year’s edition of FEEDBACK is again also collating the various positions from the previous season of the Austrian dance and performance scene into a festival. In cooperation between the Tanzquartier Wien and brut Wien this provides the chance to admire outstanding works from the local performance scene afresh and also to make them accessible to an international expert audience in concentrated form.
With Gin Müller, irreality.tv, Nesterval, Claire Lefèvre, Fanni Futterknecht, Simon Mayer, Die Rabtaldirndln and many more!
All over Vienna has been the motto of the last months. Thanks for joining brut on a tour through 15 districts and 30 venues. The next season is coming up and here is a sneak preview on what is going to happen in and with brut this autumn. Our nomadic journey will continue a little longer – the renovation of Künstlerhaus is still lasting – and besides venues all over Vienna we will open the studio brut at Zieglergasse 25 as a permanent venue this autumn.
The imagetanz festival has existed in Vienna for more than 25 years now. It represented an important first step for many artists who are well-known in the Austrian dance scene today – it was here that some performers presented their very first pieces to the public. With The Inheritance, the upcoming imagetanz festival takes a look back at more than 25 years of dance history, creating a link to today’s young generation of artists.

„Can’t catch me, I’m syntax free, I’m preconceived, preternaturally […]“ Sonic Youth – The Ineffable Me
Three utterly different musicians visit brut for the concert series The Ineffable Me: Bianca Casady, one half of the artsy folk music duo CocoRosie, includes video art and choreography in her new solo project; electropop musician Gazelle Twin confronts the terrors of puberty in a hoodie; and Finnish artist Mirel Wagner plays gloomy blues music with a sub-pop touch. All three of them refuse to submit to the still male-dominated dictate of the pop industry, like to play with attributed identities and amaze by their ineffable, intractable musical creations.
19 November: Bianca Casady and the C.i.A.
20 November: Gazelle Twin
21 November: Mirel Wagner
This year as well, brut is one stage of the Wiener Festwochen, which take place in May and June and combine cultural events with relevant goals and topics of the society.

BRUTTO is a concert series juxtaposing various artistic formats, styles, approaches and methods. A team of curators (Rania Moslam, Lisa Kortschak and Gregor Mahnert) presents small, fine shows of experimental music. But they don’t arbitrarily say ‘anything goes’, they ambitiously combine opposites and seeming opposites.
One guest, two tables, 110 questions. A genially merciless interviewer provides insights into a country’s mentality. Guests at brut is a new regular series created by Graz-based company Theater im Bahnhof. In each episode, three different local personalities are thoroughly probed in 30-minute interviews. Pia Hierzegger asks them randomly drawn questions ranging from the current political situation to personal issues, thus unfolding a vivid selection of greatly varying insights, views and perspectives.
