Barbis Ruder - Air, Transmedia Art Class / University of Applied Arts Vienna

Come Closer makes two different art schools clash: two different art classes and thus countless ideas of what performance art can be. Students will use the first class gathering of this kind during imagetanz to talk about their current work and perform some of it, as a way of scrutinising their partly diverging, partly rather similar approaches and methods. There is extensive experimentation going on in both departments, testing possible as well as impossible approaches to performance art. Contact with other branches of art and experimentation with the most different media and forms of expression are of key importance at both universities. Their encounter at brut allows peeks into how the two departments work and initiates a broad exchange that also includes the visitors of brut. Everybody is very much welcome to join.

The presentation will be immediately followed by the Bring your own booze regular’s table at the bar. Please register by sending an e-mail to tickets@brut-wien.at.
The Transmedia Art Class at the Vienna University of Applied Arts works with trans-disciplinary approaches to the conceptualisation and realisation of art. Their basis is the critical analysis of theoretical and practical methods and the reflection on aspects of communication, performance and processes in connection with artistic strategies.

The Department of Performance Art at the Academy of Fine Arts focuses on questions and thoughts on documentation, theory and performance art history. Critical and conceptual thinking is fostered in seminars, workshops and both individual and group meetings. The aim is for the students to develop a distinct artistic language and work without any restrictions in terms of media forms or theory.
