Before Simon Mayer’s new piece Oh Magic will have its Vienna premiere at brut in the season of 2017/18, fans and friends will have an early opportunity to catch a glimpse into how the project is created and to discuss the current state of the work process with the performers as part of the April edition of Handle with care.

The piece Oh Magic will be a joint live concert of robots and performers, a playful journey into a world full of theatrical and technological magic and a quest for the symphonic consonance of performance, dance, music, sound, robotics and visual art. Simon Mayer and his team go out to find the indescribable and fascinating sense we sometimes feel in the theatre. Oh Magic entangles the futuristic fantasies of new technologies with the magic of the theatrical while at the same time addressing our double-edged relationship with robotics and technology.

The performer, dancer, choreographer and musician Simon Mayer studied at the Vienna State Opera’s ballet school and the Performing Arts, Research and Training Studios (PARTS) in Brussels. He was a member of the Vienna State Opera Ballet. As a dancer, choreographer and musician, he has appeared, among others, in the productions of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker/ROSAS, Wim Vandekeybus and Zita Swoon. He has been touring the world very successfully, showing his pieces SunBengSitting and Sons of Sissy, while teaching at numerous festivals and as a guest lecturer at the Vienna Konservatorium.
